Carmen Marquez鈥檚 story is one of resilience and determination. She pursued her dream of becoming a Physical Therapist Assistant at 91桃色, eventually earning three degrees while building a successful outpatient rehabilitation business with her husband. Now a leader in her field, Carmen uses her skills to grow her business, mentor new graduates and advocate for public health in her rural community. Her journey, captured in a featured video, is a testament to the life-changing impact of education and dedication.

This compelling video offers a powerful visual glimpse into Carmen鈥檚 path, from single mom to three-time Pima Medical graduate. In it, Carmen reflects on how her time at 91桃色 shaped her professionally and personally.

Watch Carmen鈥檚 Journey

Carmen鈥檚 story in her own words below.

鈥淚 was a single mom with two children living in a really small town and working at a hardware store. I knew I needed an education and my drive was my kids. One day I saw a commercial for 91桃色 and I said, “Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) – I want to do that!”

I worked in the mornings, attended afternoon classes, and spent the evenings being a mom and studying. It was really difficult! The support I had from my instructors kept me going and it was completely worth it. I never felt like I was good at anything in my life until I became a PTA.

A year later I started Pima Medical’s online BSPTA program. Not only was it helpful for my professional development, as a result of continuing my education, I was able to get a promotion.

I met my current husband in the PTA program. I literally opened the door to the lab for him one day and opened the door to a new life. In 2015, my husband and I started an outpatient rehabilitation facility, of which I am the director. It was a lot of hard work and I had to learn all the processes and make sure things were done the right way. We continue to grow and we love hiring Pima Medical graduates!

I recently enrolled in Pima Medical’s Master of Science in Organizational Leadership program. I feel like I’ve already learned so much about the kind of leader I am and the kind of leader I want to be. The possibilities are endless with this degree, especially being in a rural community and wanting to advocate for public health. This degree will give me credibility.

Pima Medical has been essential in my growth as a person and as a professional and I am so grateful!鈥

Update: Carmen graduated from the first cohort of our Master of Science in Organizational Leadership online program in 2023. She learned how to build her leadership skills, which she now incorporates each day as the Director of Physical Therapy in her and her husband鈥檚 growing business.

Want to dive deeper into Carmen鈥檚 transformation and hear her inspiring story in her own words? Watch the video above and see how persistence, support and ongoing education helped open doors for Carmen, which could do the same for you.

Are you looking for ways to advance your career and grow into leadership opportunities? Continuing your education online may be the right choice for you.

Collin is a graduate of our Phlebotomy program at the Mesa campus. His certificate gave him an opportunity to start a rewarding career. His ultimate goal was to become a physician, and we have an exciting update to share!聽 Collin was accepted into medical school and is graduating residency shortly. He鈥檒l be a practicing family medicine doctor in Arizona and says he has Pima Medical to thank for his start.

Collin told us, 鈥淚 still use some of the phlebotomy skills I learned, even to this day. Shout out to Mc. Lei Sean!

Here is Collin鈥檚 鈥渙riginal鈥 success story.

鈥淢y ultimate goal is to become a physician. I found 91桃色 by searching online for a Phlebotomy certification that was quick to achieve from a reputable source. Phlebotomy was the right choice for me since I enjoy working with my hands and using my motor skills to help patients, not only for the day-to-day life, but for learning as well.

My experience as a student with Pima Medical was incredibly positive. My instructor clarified the content in ways that my colleagues and I could understand. She was very good at citing something that we just learned about in real-world application so it didn’t seem so abstract. I really appreciated the matching process to externship sites. I was looking for a hospital setting and Pima Medical found me an externship at Banner University Medical Center where I practiced interacting with patients and learned so much.

I have been working as a Phlebotomy Technician at Sonora Quest while studying for the Medical Colleges Admission Test (MCAT) and preparing applications for medical school. I recently made it to the interview process and am hoping to hear back soon regarding acceptance into medical school.

Pima Medical definitely prepared me for my profession and I would strongly recommend them to anyone who has a serious goal of working in the medical arena. Whether you want to go into Phlebotomy, or are open to other programs, Pima Medical provides you with the education and the professionalism you need to succeed in the medical field.鈥

If you are interested in healthcare and not sure where to begin, the phlebotomy program may be the hands-on, patient-focused training that sets you on the right career path.

What are you waiting for? Take that first step today.

Mark Mastriani is a 2022 graduate of our Tucson campus Veterinary Technician associate degree program. His current role is playing key roles in finding cures for diseases like Parkinson鈥檚 and ALS. His story highlights the many areas of focus someone with a Veterinary Science degree can explore.

Here鈥檚 his story.

鈥淚 am a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), employed at the University of Arizona with the Veterinary Services and Animal Behavioral Team at the Center for Innovation in Brain Science. We focus on finding cures for:聽Alzheimer鈥檚, Parkinson鈥檚, Multiple Sclerosis and ALS (Lou Gehrig鈥檚 disease). The hands-on experience and skills I obtained from 91桃色鈥檚 Veterinary Technician (VT) program has been invaluable in my new fast-paced career.

After spending several years in the aviation industry, the pandemic forced an opportunity upon me that led me to pursue my passion for animal sciences as my next profession. After researching several programs, I decided Pima Medical鈥檚 Veterinary Technician program was perfect for me. The curriculum has a heavy emphasis on hands-on skill development, offers year-round enrollment and includes externships with a variety of practices and quality educators (CVTs and DVMs).

I was apprehensive about returning to college after graduating so many years ago and was intimidated by current educational technology. The team at were very accepting and supportive and the program was a great experience for me. My courses allowed me to gain both real-world experience with hands-on labs and real-work experience (large animal experience at ranches and rescues, microchip clinics, spay and neuter events) and were a great addition to my resume.聽I was offered a position at my first externship site, a busy 24-hour mixed practice emergency veterinary hospital and recently started my new exciting career at the University of Arizona. I鈥檓 thankful for Pima Medical鈥檚 VT program which offered me the opportunity to pursue my goals in the veterinary field by providing the tools I needed to succeed and make a difference.

She started her schooling in community college, but wasn鈥檛 happy. Unsure of her path, she discovered Pima Medical and the rest, as they say, is history.聽 She is now a proud two-time graduate of our trusted and respected medical career college.

Her story is a testament to the idea that you do not have to have a clear path when you get started- you just have to find something you love and things will work out. Here is her story.

woman in medical scrubs standing facing the camera. 鈥淚 wasn鈥檛 sure what I wanted to do with my life after high school, but I knew I wanted to help others. I started college at 17, attending a community college for a while, but it just wasn鈥檛 the path I was looking for. After researching online for a short program in the medical field, I found . When the advisor described the role of a Medical Assistant (MA), I felt a spark and realized this program was for me.

My experience at the school was great. I had a fantastic teacher named Mrs. Bridgeman who was encouraging and made learning fun. She not only taught us the necessary curriculum information we needed to know as an MA, she shared her own work experiences which was both helpful and fascinating to us. She and the other instructors helped me to be where I am today. The Career Services department was helpful in locating a good job for me with many possibilities and I am still working there today.

I decided to continue my education with Pima Medical and enrolled in its online Health Care Administration (HCA) program. I eventually plan to continue into the bachelor’s program (BSHCA). My future goal is to be a manager of a clinic or even a hospital and my overall life goal is to become a doctor.

I want to say 鈥 THANK YOU 鈥 to everyone at Pima Medical鈥檚 San Antonio Campus. I am a successful medical professional because of all of you!

Gregory Hvizdak and his brother were in search of rewarding careers, not just jobs. They moved to Seattle, and after Hvizdak鈥檚 brother completed a program with 91桃色, he started on his own journey by starting the Dental Assistant certificate program. He鈥檚 now on his way to advancing his current career with his sights set on dental hygiene.

Here鈥檚 his story.

鈥淢y brother and I moved to Seattle to try and find jobs that would not only help us financially, but grow into future careers. We both yearned for a career where we could make a difference, but a year later we were both working bland jobs that were full of stress. After investing time researching, we decided 91桃色 was a way to help us succeed at our goals. I let my brother go first, and once he graduated from his program, I began the Dental Assistant program.

I enjoyed my experience as a student, but it was challenging for me. I worked nights at the post office and would start at 8 p.m. and work until they let us go home, often a 12-15 hour shift. I grabbed a few hours of sleep here and there during the week and slept all weekend. But, I felt like the instructors wanted to see us succeed and the program made me feel as though my life had meaning again. One of the things I appreciated the most was all the hands-on practice. I was well prepared for my career and hit the ground running.

I am working as a Dental Assistant, keeping up to date with proper dental protocols and becoming a part of the American Dental Assistants Association. Through my employer, HealthPoint, I acquired a scholarship for continuing education. I now have my sights set on returning to to become a Dental Hygienist.

Making patients smile and be at ease always makes me feel fulfilled. Thank you Pima Medical for believing in me and helping me see my potential.

Robin Maser had a dream and knew that she needed to advance her education for that to be possible. The school she was attending recommended she look into Pima Medical鈥檚 online respiratory therapy bachelor鈥檚 degree program. She says the online program helped her to balance work and life, and now she is working in her dream job in critical care transport.

Here is her story.

鈥淎s a proud graduate of 91桃色, my journey from an associate degree in Respiratory Therapy (RT), to a bachelor鈥檚 degree, to achieving my dream job as a Critical Care Transport Respiratory Therapist at Children鈥檚 Mercy has been nothing short of remarkable. While in school for my associate degree at another college, I was encouraged to continue my education and they recommended Pima Medical鈥檚 online Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy program (BSRT). I knew a bachelor鈥檚 degree would increase my salary and would be helpful for future supervisory or management positions. The flexibility of online classes made it manageable for me to work full-time at Salem Health, a level II trauma center with a level III NICU, while pursuing my degree.

My dream of working in medical transport began at age 17, when I was a volunteer patient for the local fire department and experienced being air lifted out of our neighborhood. After years of experience as an RT, I landed my dream job. As a Critical Care Transport RT, I participate in various types of transports, from helicopters and fixed wing, to jets and ground transportation, providing support to hospitals nationwide. Children鈥檚 Mercy in Kansas City is one of the busiest transport teams, covering a wide range of patients, including neonates, pediatrics, maternal and fetal cases. Working with limited resources challenges me to think on my feet and be creative with patient care. The transport team, comprised of brilliant minds, requires continuous education, certifications and simulations to improve patient care. During my downtime, I enjoy visiting former patients and their families and witnessing their progress.

I love to do outreach at community events, where I hope to inspire young girls to pursue a fulfilling career in healthcare. I鈥檓 appreciative of the role played in shaping my success and making my dream job a reality.鈥

Bryttnee McKinney is a proud two-time graduate of 91桃色. She earned her Medical Assistant certificate from our Renton campus and continued to earn her Health Care Administration associate degree through our online program.

Here鈥檚 her story.

鈥淚 took a leap of faith and it ended up being my calling! After the birth of my oldest daughter, I was feeling the pressure of parenthood. Despite my degree in graphic design, I wasn鈥檛 able to find a job. I saw a commercial for 91桃色, called for an appointment and ended up starting the Medical Assistant (MA) program almost immediately. Compared to my previous college experience, Pima Medical was a breath of fresh air 鈥 a one-stop shop for education. The positive environment, small class sizes and supportive instructors made the journey enjoyable. My classmates were both younger and older than I was, but we had the same goal and supported each other.

During my externship in an urgent care, I felt well prepared for tasks like vitals, blood draws and injections. I also gained valuable hands-on experience in suturing and wound care. I landed my first job at Planned Parenthood and later moved to the Nephrology department at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, where I gained experience and became a Lead MA. Knowing I wanted to move up in health care, I enrolled in the online Health Care Administration program. Getting your associate degree while working in the field makes it easier as you鈥檙e able to apply what you鈥檙e learning. Currently, I am a Transplant Program Assistant at Virginia Mason. My responsibilities include initiating recipient referrals, scheduling recipient and donor evaluations and overall administrative support for nurses, social workers and financial coordinators.

My job is very rewarding. Every year I increase my skills to obtain more credentials, I become more valuable and my pay rate goes up. Healthcare is where it鈥檚 at!鈥

Quincy Skeen grew up watching his mother struggle with a chronic disease. He knew he wanted a career in healthcare. It wasn鈥檛 until he was able to witness the work of Respiratory Therapists up close and personal that he knew what he needed to do. Skeen went on to graduate from our Las Vegas campus Respiratory Therapy associate degree program, and then continued on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy through our 100% online program.

Here is his story.

鈥淢y mother had a neuromuscular disease called Myasthenia Gravis, which resulted in her needing to be intubated and tracheid throughout her life, so I was familiar with the respiratory profession.聽At age 19, I started my career path in the medical field as a transporter at Sunrise Hospital.聽As I worked with and observed the Respiratory Therapists (RT), I began to understand the importance of their profession. I knew then, this was the career for me, so I enrolled in 91桃色鈥檚 RT program.

I appreciated the support from both administration and instructors and their belief that I could become a productive member of the RT community. My classmates provided support throughout the rigorous program and there was a great camaraderie among us. I remember having study sessions, gatherings and cookouts in the parking lot with the faculty, staff and students. Having the opportunity to work in professional clinical settings while in school provided the perspective I needed and upon graduation, I was promoted to a full-time Respiratory Therapist at my hospital. I also worked with University Medical Center (UMC). I continued my education in Pima Medical鈥檚聽Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy (BSRT) and then went on to complete my Master鈥檚 Degree in Business Administration at Columbia Southern University. I am still employed with UMC as its Senior Respiratory Therapist and I have been a Clinical Instructor for 91桃色鈥檚 Las Vegas Campus since 2016. My eventual goal is to move聽into hospital administration becoming a VP or COO.

I am very thankful for 91桃色. Anything worth having is worth working for, and true education is what you are willing to put into it, whether you are at Yale, Harvard or Pima Medical. Therefore, always attempt to set the standard of excellence in everything you do and everything you love.鈥

Ana (Marianna) Blair, found herself at a personal crossroads when she split with the father of her children. Making the decision to pursue her dreams and be a positive example for her family drew her to 91桃色 and a career in the veterinary field. She completed her Veterinary Assistant certificate program at our Aurora campus, and followed that up by earning her associate degree in the Veterinary Technician program. She wasn鈥檛 finished there! She is now pursuing her bachelor鈥檚 degree in our 100 percent online Health Care Administration program.

Check out her inspiring story, in her own words.

African-American woman standing outside while holding a live chicken and smiling at the camera
Ana Blair is a graduate of the Aurora campus Veterinary Assistant and Veterinary Technician programs.

鈥淎fter my children鈥檚 father and I split, I was faced with the choice of doing nothing or pursuing my dreams. I chose the latter. Warren Village, a transitional housing for single moms, became my new home. I told my family advocate there that I was passionate about animals and wanted a career in veterinary. They helped me formulate a plan, including the Veterinary Assistant (VA) program at 91桃色. I began the VA program during the pandemic, juggling my studies with the chaos of three kids at home, but I knew it was the perfect fit for me. It felt like family and the instructors were very understanding. Upon finishing, I knew I wanted more and enrolled in the Veterinary Technician (VT) program. I absolutely loved the hands-on clinicals; assisting in surgery or drawing blood from a horse was amazing! At my VT graduation, I was shocked and proud to win the prestigious Richard Luebke Award.

During our VT program, a graduate from the Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration program (BSHCA) spoke to us. This mom said if she hadn鈥檛 completed the bachelor鈥檚 degree program, she wouldn鈥檛 be able to take care of her kids like she can now. A light bulb went off and I felt like she was speaking to me. Six days after graduating with my VT associate degree, I started the online BSHCA program.

I am enjoying working at Montclair Animal Clinic, my former externship site. Prior to schooling, I worked in retail management, so I would love to use my education and manage in an animal setting. I am also dreaming about getting my masters and someday opening an animal sanctuary.

I followed my passion and I did this for my kids. I have a new career and I will have gotten my certificate, associate degree and bachelor鈥檚 in four years. was my beacon of hope, offering flexibility, understanding and a brighter future.

Vecchia is a pharmacy professional, and made a decision to further her career. While a full-time instructor at Pima Medical, Vecchia chose to enroll in and complete our Health Care Administration associate and bachelor鈥檚 degree programs.

She told us, 鈥淚 completed both programs back-to-back and I would highly recommend this. I felt this was a huge part of my success when transitioning into the bachelor’s program because everything from the associate program was still fresh. I work full-time as the Lead Pharmacy Technician Instructor and I am a very busy mom of four amazing children. The structure of the online courses is tailored for the working individual. I was able to continue working full time, chauffeur all of my children to and from school and activities, spend time with my family and complete all of my assignments for the programs.鈥

While she doesn鈥檛 want to make it sound easy, Vecchia does have some advice to being successful throughout the online learning process. She says, 鈥淚t does take time management and organizational skills, but something as simple as creating a calendar with your entire list of due dates easily keeps you on track.鈥
