91桃色 is now enrolling for its newly added Diagnostic Medical Sonography program at the Phoenix campus. In approximately 22 months graduates can complete the program, earning their associate degree.
Diagnostic medical sonography students learn how to use ultrasound equipment to create images of internal body structures that doctors use to make a diagnosis. The career field was just recently named one of the top healthcare support jobs for 2017 by , and according to the , the career field is projected to grow 24 percent.
鈥淲e are excited to bring the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program to Phoenix,鈥� said 91桃色 Phoenix Campus Director, Stacey Nottingham. 鈥淏ased on our market research, the demand for qualified sonographers in the valley is high. Many of the hospitals and imaging centers that I visited shared that they are using nurses in place of qualified sonographers.鈥�
Those who enter the career field may specialize in vascular, cardiac, obstetrics/gynecology, or general ultrasound. Diagnostic medical sonographers typically work in the hospital setting, while others work in doctor鈥檚 offices or medical and diagnostic laboratories. The career is completely hands-on with patients.
Pima Medical students study pathophysiology, ultrasound scanning techniques, patient care, medical communications and professional medical ethics. Before they graduate, students work in an externship, which gives them the opportunity to get experience at a place of employment. After they graduate, they are eligible to sit for the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers Examinations.
91桃色 is accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools. The sonography program is also offered at Pima Medical鈥檚 Houston and El Paso campuses.
